I got an opportunity to intern under the guidance of Dr. Suresh Kumar Rayala in his lab at Indian Institute of Technology, Chennai during my summer break. During my internship I shadowed the PhDs and the Postdocs. I was able to learn a range of techniques including Mammalian cell culture techniques, protein isolation and estimation, Buffer preparation and pH calibration, characterization of proteins using SDS PAGE, Western Blotting, Bacterial transformation, Plasmid Isolation, Agarose Gel Electrophoresis, Luciferase Assay and Mice model handling. I was also able to learn how to do an extensive literature review in cancer biology space.
p21-activated kinase 1 (PAK1) is a serine/threonine kinase involved in a wide range of cellular activities like cell proliferation and survival, oncogenic signaling. Alpha-glucosidase 1 (AGLU1) is an enzyme involved in the processing of glycoproteins in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER). I was involved in the co-immunoprecipitation process of these two proteins for their specific study.
